24 Jun Sugar Nahla Kalani
Sugar came into our family when she was 6 months old in Calgary. She was a very active girl right from the beginning as a puppy up until to her last day on earth. She always had a happy disposition, wagging tail, and wiggle-bum due to pure happiness. Sugar loved to play with other dogs and was known to help new or shy dogs learn how to play at doggy daycare. She would sit with shy dogs until they were ready to play, and made many friends there. Sugar also loved people very easily. She would gladly climb on to a warm lap for a cuddle, even with a person she’d never met before.
Sugar was a great athlete who ran at high speed with agility. She leapt over tall snowbanks with little effort, and could twirl out of the path of a running dog in a split second. She loved chasing birds, butterflies, squirrels or anything moving fast. She loved demonstrating the commands and tricks she knew.
Because she was a hunting breed, she was naturally a quiet dog who could go days without barking. She loved sitting in the sunshine and looking for sparkling reflections of light. She was a trustworthy dog who stole a perfectly golden grilled cheese tuna sandwich only one time. She loved to carry stuffed animals around and kept them in the car, the bed, the couch, behind the couch and in many other corners of the house.
Sugar’s last day on earth was spent at one of her favourite places to be: her doggy daycare. The day beforehand she enjoyed one of her favourite walking paths and spent time on our patio, resting on her mat and listening to the sounds of the forest and watching birds swoop by.
Despite multiple health challenges, Sugar was a fighter with an outstanding attitude, and cooperated with ongoing vet care for several years. We will miss the way she thumped her tail every morning as she woke up, our walks, our naps, and our romaine lettuce parties. She was a precious being and we are grateful to have shared time with her and to have known her love for the last 8 years. RIP our beautiful Sugar Nahla Kalani of the heavens.
