26 Jul Lily
Our dearest Lily-pie passed away on July 21 after 17 years of wonderful companionship. She was originally our neighbour’s cat with friendly visits to us, then we rescued her when our neighbour passed away. Lily was always a very gentle, good natured cat that liked to sit at the end of our driveway and greet anyone who walked past. A solitary girl, she was very protective of her turf (our yard) and warned kitty intruders away – never got into any scraps, though.
Lily was a champion mouser and often asked to be let into cupboards and closets later in the evening when she felt like hunting – though she mainly caught mice out and about in the yard. She was late to train to harness but we did get to enjoy hikes with her on trails through the Columbia Shuswap area and the Cariboo.
Her favourite times were when she snuggled up between us on the couch and enjoyed petting and a snooze while we read or watched a movie. She also loved rolling around on the grass and exposing her furry little tummy to the warm dappled sunshine under the apple tree. Lily was a great comfort when we lost all our parents within the past 8 months.
When we couldn’t take her on some of our trips, she enjoyed a stay with ‘Auntie’ Laura, a good friend that spoiled her with treats and petting. She always knew when we were taking her to stay with our friend and settled down well within 5 minutes.
We miss you sorely, our Little Lily-pie.
