Link

It is with such a heavy heart that I have to say Link is no longer with us. Stirling and I brought Link in on boxing day to end his suffering. Link was no longer eating on his own and it was apparent the meds weren’t helping to manage his pain anymore. He had lost so much weight, we couldn’t hold on any longer without it being unfair to Link. 7 years with him truly wasn’t long enough, and we feel robbed of so many more great memories with him.

Link was the first dog I got that was truly my own, not a family dog. He was such a spunky pup who loved dragging me around the neighbourhood. He is a top tier cuddler, like gold medal for cuddling no doubt about it. The mornings have been the hardest without him, every morning when he would hear that I was awake he came to cuddle me in bed. And every night he would cuddle me for the first bit too. So everyday I fell asleep and woke up to Link cuddles, and it has been extremely hard without them.

Your brother and sister miss you so much Link. Dracula has been rolling on a spot that you rolled on in the backyard everyday since you’ve been gone. He is also lying in the bed that you spent many of your last days in. I know he misses cuddling with you too, honestly Link who wouldn’t, because you had the best cuddles. And your sister, you guys had such a special bond. You were so gentle with her, and she loved rubbing up against you. She loved you so much. We are grieving you together as a family.

The moment I had you in my arms I knew you were mine. I hadn’t planned to get a male dog, but you won my heart over instantly. You had such piercing blue eyes as a pup, which turned to a beautiful golden yellow as you grew older. I’ll never forget how much joy you brought into my life Link and all of those around you that got to experience it too. You brightened every room you walked into, with your little scrunch face smile. You are my handsome man Link, my buggy butt, my stinky butt, my bug, my potato. You were everything I never knew I needed and more. It hurts so much that you are gone. I wake up crying because I miss you so much. But I know me and your dad did absolutely everything we could for you. Cancer took you from us way too early, you didn’t deserve that, no one does. We are happy you aren’t in pain anymore Link but we wish we could have saved you. We would have done anything to have you here with us still.

I just want to remind you of all the things we love about you:
– your incessant licking because you just love people so much and wanted to give them as many kisses as you could. Especially your grandma
– your scrunch face smile
– the way you’d look at me from across the room
– your sassy attitude
– the way you’d try and act tough when you were actually just a big scaredy cat 🤣
– your cuddles
– your stinky farts (yes I’ll even miss those too)
– your little clicky nails on the concrete
– the way you’d lick my tears away when I was sad
– the way you would brighten my day when I was depressed
– your enthusiasm for chasing a ball
– the love and guidance you showed your brother and sister (you truly were such a great brother to your sister and brother)
– the way you would be so ecstatic when we came home and would always find a toy, a bone, or your food dish in your mouth to greet me/us with
– the way you’d be so excited when I would tell you your daddy was home or that he was awake and you and your brother would go cuddle him in bed
– the way you insisted on always being leader of the pack on our bush walks
– the way you’d bark at me if I went to far into the water without you
– you sticking your cute head out the window on car rides
– how you’d always come start licking the sweat off me after a good workout

There is so so much more that I love about you Link. You truly were one of a kind. You will hold such a special place in my heart forever.❤️
