GARFIELD came into our lives following a long stay at the SPCA when 12.5 years old. He passed away February 12th 2012 at 15 years of age. Garfi was an old soul, a nurturer, healer, and protector. He lived a good life and is missed by many. Thank you Garfield for all your snuggles, wisdom, love, and humor; you were one of a kind.

I had to put my beautiful Celeste to sleep on January 25th (last week). She had been with me for 16 years and was a sweet spirited, fun loving girl. She was adopted from the Surrey SPCA as a young kitten and immediately took a special place in my heart when she came home.

Her Halloween cat prance across the living room floor would make me laugh and she could squeeze herself into the smallest of places that I would stand there scratching my head, wondering how she managed to fit. Every time a clean, warm load of laundry was around, she would hop into either the clothes basket or the dryer, burrow into the garments and fall asleep. She would curl up beside me or over my head at bedtime and her purring and kneading of paws would put me to sleep.

She would always investigate whatever my husband and I were eating and loved corn on the cob, English cucumber and baked potato. After developing diabetes several years ago, her youthful antics started to wane and she had more difficulties walking due to hip problems. She just was not happy or very comfortable the past few months and I could not bare to see my sweet, beautiful girl continue to slip away. She was the proud mascot and logo for my company “Black Cat Ventures” many years ago and that is how I will fondly remember my beloved baby girl. She will forever be in my heart

Our sweet boy Zack passed away peacefully in our arms Dec 2nd, 2011 at the age of 17. I still remember the day we got him, it was totally unplanned. Some friends asked us to go to a cat show for something to do. The thought of getting a cat never even crossed our minds, but when we saw him it was instant attraction.

Zack was a unique soul, possessing a personality more like a dog in many ways. At a young age he was able to learn to catch a paper ball in his paws and bring it back and drop it in our hands. There were many hours of fetch played.

He also loved to travel in his younger years coming with us to trips to Sask, to visit family and on a ski trip to Montana. He accepted and loved our second cat Zoe unconditionally and they were inseparable. As our family grew, Zack became the protector, looking out for and loving our three sons like they were his. He even took a liking to our dog Zena, even though she was 10 times larger and loved to annoy him.

Zack was the best cuddler, always preferring to be under the covers with you. He loved to be scooped up and hugged close, never trying to escape. He would just lay there with you as long as you wanted, totally relaxed, like he wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

He was also the life of the party. Usually cats make themselves scarce when people come over, but not Zack. He would greet people at the door and jump up on their shoulders. He would hang out all night entertaining everyone with his handsome good looks and outgoing nature.

Hardly sick a day in his life, we thought he’d live forever. Although he is gone too soon, we are thankful for his swift peaceful passing and the awesome memories he leaves with us.
